System Requirements

  • PC(*) with Pentium 166 MHz or higher.
  • Windows® 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP.
  • 64 MB of RAM or greater.
  • 128 MB of free hard drive space.
  • 800×600 (SVGA) or greater.

Installation

I can’t find my serial number.

The serial number is printed on an index card that was packaged with your CD. If you received Storybase 2.0 via download, the serial number was sent to you via e-mail.

Launch

When I try to open the program, I get an error message that says “storybase.data.bas.bestFitIndexGet()” and then a string of letters and numbers.

First, try rebooting your computer, and then launching Storybase 2.0 again.

If that doesn’t work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Storybase 2.0. To uninstall DO NOT USE the Add / Remove Programs feature in Windows. Instead, insert the Storybase 2.0 CD-ROM (if you purchased a physical copy) into your CD-ROM drive or double-click on Storybase 2.0.exe (if you purchased a download), and when prompted, select the ‘remove’ option, and follow the instructions on your screen.

Once Storybase 2.0 has been removed, go to C:\ProgramFiles\Ashleywilde\Storybase\db and delete the file named SB.dat. Then reboot your computer, and try installing Storybase 2.0 again.

Display

The display on the screen is truncated either horizontally, vertically, or both, and I am unable to see the entire content of the screens.

Try increasing your screen resolution to 1024 x 768. If your resolution is currently set lower, this will likely solve the problem. (To check screen resolution right-click on your desktop and click ‘Properties’. Then select ‘Settings’. Use the graphical slide bar to increase your resolution.) Usually Storybase 2.0 works fine at the 800 x 600 setting, however, on some monitors, a higher resolution is necessary.

Macintosh

When will a MAC version of Storybase 2.0 be available?

We will eventually make Storybase 2.0 available to MacOS users but we do not yet have an ETA.

Will Storybase 2.0 work on a MAC with Virtual PC?

Storybase 2.0 will work on Mac OSX and Mac OS9 with Virtual PC Version 3 or later.

Features

Does Storybase 2.0 include a word processor with formatting, spell checking and thesaurus?

Storybase 2.0 includes a simple word processor but it does not include specialized screenplay formatting, spell checking or thesaurus. If you require these features, you can simply copy and paste your work from Storybase 2.0 into almost any word processor that does offer these features.

Does Storybase 2.0 write your story for you?

Storybase 2.0 does not write your story for you. The Situations in Storybase 2.0 are suggestions that will help you discover your characters and your story.

Non-Fiction

Does Storybase 2.0 help with non-fiction?

Storybase 2.0 helps with any type of narrative storytelling, whether fiction or non-fiction. Even non-fiction has a story that must attract and hold the attention of the audience. Storybase 2.0 can help you find the essence of your story, whether it is fiction or non-fiction.
